School Supplies for Local Families

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, we held our annual school supply distribution at the Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center from 5-7pm.

More than 150 students in 65 different households registered for the free supplies and backpacks in May. Our staff and volunteers provided supplies to everyone who was registered. The Mount Vernon Community School District’s Kids in Need program supplied pre-packed boxes for Mount Vernon elementary students. SELCC purchased pre-packed boxes for Lisbon elementary students, as well as all the other supplies for students in both districts.

In addition to school supplies and backpacks, we offered each family a large box of kid-friendly food to take home and a grocery store gift card. We also provided dinner on site during the distribution.

All Lisbon and Mount Vernon students, as well as students who attend homeschool or online school in those communities, qualify for the annual program.
