Happy Earth Day!

Today is a perfect day to kick off our Community Garden project for 2020! This year we are expanding to 3 gardens and we need your help. In partnership with the LBC in Mount Vernon and local Master Gardeners, we’re adding 12 raised bed gardens at the LBC. We’ll continue our traditional vegetable garden near the Lisbon Rehab Center and add a butterfly garden outside of the sunroom at that facility, for the residents to enjoy.

So if you need to get out of your house, find a task to calm your anxieties, or just want to do a good deed for the community, this is for you! We’ll be adhering to all social distancing guidelines by scheduling volunteers at separate times or in family groups only. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own tools, or we will have cleaning supplies on hand to disinfect tools between uses.

In the last two years we’ve raised 1500 pounds of vegetables for our food pantry clients and community members. With your help, we can continue to fight hunger and promote healthy eating here in Lisbon and Mount Vernon.

Please click here if you are interested in volunteering.  Thank you!

In order to minimize risk for the vulnerable populations we serve, SELCC is making the following changes effective Monday, March 16th:

  • SELCC will be open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY 9-4 Monday-Friday. Staff will be available by email or phone at 455-2844, nicole.selcc@gmail.com or rhonda@selinn.org

  • Congregate dining is canceled. Meals on Wheels delivery will continue, and will include congregate diners.

  • All activities are canceled (Breakfast & Bingo, Lunch & a Movie)

  • Food pantry items are still available for pick-up or delivery. Food pantry clients should call or email to schedule their pick-up or delivery.

  • Senior Transportation will still be offered pending volunteer availability.

  • The After School Cafe will be closed March 16-20 during Spring Break.

We know this is a challenging time for many in our community. If you have concerns about an elderly neighbor or family member, please call so we can assist them. We know many households may face economic uncertainty as various industries are impacted. If you are in need of food assistance please contact us at any time. We anticipate increased use of our pantry in the upcoming weeks. If you’d like to help us meet this need, you can make a secure donation via our website.

Thank you for your help in keeping our vulnerable populations healthy!

Bags Needed

Do you have some extra reusable bags taking up space at home? We’d love to have them for our food pantry. With 60 visits to the pantry each week we go through a lot of bags. Declutter your space and help us use less plastic! Thanks!

Free Clothes!

Do you LOVE a bargain? Or a new (to you) outfit? We’d LOVE to have you come by Freestyle Clothing Closet. We have three rooms full of FREE gently-used clothing, shoes and accessories. Open to anyone in the Mount Vernon/Lisbon community. Stop in on Tuesday or Thursday mornings 9-12, the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month from 5-7 p.m., or anytime by appointment.

Thank you!

Thank you to 7th & 8th grade students from St John’s Catholic Church for visiting SELCC during your Faith Formation class. We loved having you visit and tour our facility. Thanks for rolling up your sleeves and helping with a project while you were here!

Seeking Artists!

Are you a local artist looking for a place to display your work? We have a rotating display of pieces by our talented neighbors and friends, and we’d love to have you join in! Open to artists of all ages, amateur or professional. Call today to find out more!

Welcome!

We are excited to welcome 6 new members to the SELCC Board of Directors; Lisbon residents Mary Morningstar, Sharon Reinken and Marianne Zahorik and Mount Vernon residents Mark Kraus, Jenny Mertes and Kate Rose. We are so grateful for their willingness to serve and we look forward to all that we can accomplish together!
