Kitchen Remodel Underway!

photo of Kitchen - Before Updates

After years of waiting, we are finally updating our kitchen! This Saturday, February 10th at 5:00 p.m. we need volunteers to help tear out all of the cabinets and countertops. Please call 455-2844 or send an email if you are available to help.

Our kitchen update is made possible through a grant from the Linn County Fund at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, funds from the City of Lisbon, and donated labor/installation from Elite Stone Fabrications.

New cabinets and countertops will be installed starting next week. Additional projects include updating the electrical in the kitchen and replacing the stove. If you have recommendations for an electrician or know of anyone who might want a large commercial stove that needs a few repairs, please let us know.

Fundraising Campaign

Annual campaign letters are going out this week to previous donors. If you aren’t on our mailing list and would like to be, please let us know.

Individual donors are our largest single source of support. With significant cuts from United Way, we are counting on our generous local donors to keep our programs thriving.

Please contact us anytime with questions about funding, how our money is used, or how to donate to a specific program.

Painting Project

After the kitchen update is complete we will be painting the community room and entryway. If you have painting experience and are interested in volunteering for this project please let us know!

Hoping to get healthier this year? Volunteering can improve your physical and mental health! The many ways volunteering is good for your heartJoin us today to see how you can benefit yourself and our community.

Our top needs right now are for Kitchen Volunteers and Freestyle Clothing Volunteers. Kitchen volunteers are needed on weekdays 10:30-12:30 to organize meals for delivery, set the table, serve the prepared meals, and do light clean-up. The tasks are simple and you get to visit with our wonderful diners.

Freestyle Volunteers can sort and organize clothing donations anytime during SELCC hours (9-4 Monday-Friday). You can also help run a Freestyle shift on Tuesday or Thursday mornings 9-12, or Wednesday evenings 6-8 p.m.

There are lots of other great opportunities waiting for you at SELCC. We look forward to having you join us!
